Frequently Asked Questions

Does acupuncture hurt?
Acupuncture needles are nothing like needles used for injections. They are much thinner and usually cause no pain. More likely, you will feel the needle working once it reaches the acupuncture point. This sensation is often described as a 'tingling', 'dull ache' or a 'warm' feeling.

Is Acupuncture safe?
Acupuncture is one of the safest treatments available in the UK. all BAcC members have completed a degree or equivalent qualificatin in acupuncture including aspects of Western medicine, anatomy, pathology and physiology.

BAcC members use single-use, pre-sterilised, disposable needles and in the treatment room follow the professional guidlines defined in the BAcC Code of Safe Practice and Professional Conduct.

How many treatments will I need?

This is difficult to say as everyone is different and treatments are specific to an individual, therefore the number of treatments required varies from person to person. Normally the longer you have had the complaint, the longer it will probably take to put right. It is hoped you would start to feel the benefit within six treatments.

What conditions can Acupunture Treat?

There is much debate among researchers about which conditions acupuncture is most effective at treating. Good acupuncture studies are very difficult to design using the standard Western models, not least because of the fundamental differences between Western and Chinese diagnosis and the fact that, by its very nature, every treatment plan in Chinese medicine is unique to the individual patient. The most comprehensive research and information about the efficacy of acupuncture is to be found on the British Acupuncture Council website which you can get to by following link.
